Microbiologists explore

Students who attend the Microbiology PDA session were invited to attend a workshop at the University of York Microbiology department. This was a fantastic opportunity for the PDA students to work in the university labs with the PHD students. Our Microbiologist enthusiasts learnt correct aseptic technique and then carried out a range of practical’s linked to ‘unearthing’ new antibiotics from soil bacteria.

Bring and Buy Bonanza

Thank you to all who donated, helped and bought at our Bring and Buy Sale, where we raised a whopping £133.39 for The Sidings Charity in Malton which is run by Ryedale YMCA and offers help to those facing homelessness. Carly McGinty, Manager of Ryedale YMCA came into school to collect the money and to talk to a group of Year 7 students who are participating in the Archbishop of York Trust Youth Award. Community Christmas Party

The motto “Be the change you want to see”, used by the Archbishop of York’s Youth Trust, has inspired Year 10 Malton students to plan and organise a major event; using it as an opportunity to invite along members of the local community who may have felt lonely or isolated at this time of year.

Y7 Netballers

Congratulations to our Year 7 Netballers who have really gelled together. As a team they have recently finished runners-up in the Whitby, Ryedale Partnership Netball tournament which was held at Lady Lumley’s School. They are now looking forward to playing in matches after the Christmas break.
 

U16 Girls Football Success

Our U16s team have had a great fortnight. The girls secured a win against Rossett School in the U16 County Cup they then went on to win the U16 One Day Shield where they didn’t lose a goal against the other teams. There next game saw them take the win against south Hunsley in the U16 National Cup and have beaten Ryedale in the quarter final of the District Knock-Out Cup. Paired reading
Our paired reading at Malton School has begun. It is an opportunity for 25 year 7s to sit for 15 minutes, once a week and just read; aided by their selected sixth former. It is a way of helping younger students to develop their confidence and self-esteem both academically and personally. STEM Event
A number of parents and students attended the recent STEM event in our Drama Studio. The evening which was run in conjunction with Derwent Training Association saw a number of local employers in the Science and Engineering Sector come into school to help parents and students to learn about career choices and listen to speakers about their experience in STEM.
