Many subjects at Malton School are studied in all years from Year 7 to Year 13. More specialised "option" subjects are introduced in Year 10 and 11 – such as Business Studies and a range of vocational courses. More still are offered in the sixth form, such as Sociology and Psychology.
The subjects departments are grouped into several Faculties:

Subject Departments include: Design Technology and Food Technology with Health and Social Care.
- English and Drama

- Humanities
Subject Departments include: Geography with Geology, and History with Archaeology, and Government and Politics.
- Maths, Enterprise and ICT
Subject Departments include: Business and Enterprise (Business Studies, Economics, Travel and Tourism), Information Technology and Mathematics.
- Modern Foreign Languages
Subject Departments include: French and German.
- Science and Engineering
Subject Departments include: Engineering and Science (Applied, Biology, Chemistry and Physics).
- Social Sciences
Subject Departments include: Citizenship, Psychology, Religious Education and Sociology.
- Sports
Subject Departments include: Physical Education and Sports Centre.
