Retracing the Revolution in Paris

Parisians were given a grilling by students from Malton School when they descended on their city.
Our Sixth Formers spent five days in Paris at the start of December where they interviewed French people to practise their conversational language skills.

A Festive Evening of Talent

Earlier this week our Christmas concert took place in the West Wing Hall. The audience were entertained with singing and dancing.



A number of students showed their talents on the piano and their instruments with beautiful renditions of popular culture as well as the token Christmas favourites.

This concert is a real student led affair with lighting and stage management being run by students from varying year groups.

Bringing Archaeology to Life

Students in archaeology got their hands on some Roman artefacts during a visit to Malton Museum.
Margaret Shaw from Malton Museum was on hand to explain the artefacts to the students who have all opted to take archaelogy for their PDA session.
The museum is Ryedale’s major archaeological museum which holds a collection from Malton Roman Fort and town, and from the nearby Langton Villa as well as more recent finds.

A Lesson in Charity

Big-hearted students have thrown their efforts into raising funds for local charities this term.
The students, who all opted to do charity work in their PDA session, held a fundraising event in school to raise money for Martin House Hospice, Yorkshire Air Ambulance and the Encephalitis Society.

Tournament Triumph

Well done to the U15 girls’ hockey team who won the Whitby and Ryedale Partnership Tournament at Lady Lumley’s School. The girls played fantastically well with great teamwork, communication and confidence in adverse weather conditions.
The majority of the team were Year 10 students apart from Emily Carroll, Izzy Matique, Katie Robinson and Lily Palmer from Year 9.

A visit from the West End

The Year 11 and 12 drama students got a taste of life treading the boards when West End casting director Ben Newsome came into school to talk to them.

Raising Funds for Children in Need

Students and staff raised a fantastic £828 for Children in Need by hosting a variety of fun fundraising activities on Friday.
The Sixth Form students organised their own version of the TV game show, Pointless, while others dressed up for Famous Friday.

Students in the lower school sold sweets and lunchtime and a group of four Year 8 girls had spent the night before baking cakes to sell during the lunch break.

Opportunity Knocks

Students had the chance to find out what skills, qualifications and training are required for different career paths at an event in Pickering this week.
The Year 9 students were invited to Opportunity Knocks at Lady Lumley’s School to meet employers from across Ryedale.
They visited the various stands to chat to employers about their training and career opportunities. The students found it very helpful in deciding on course or career options.

Cross Country Winners

Well done to our Cross Country team for scooping top places in the District Cross Country Finals at Duncombe Park recently.
Overall the Year 8 Boys and Year 9 Girls came 1st and the Year 8 Girls came 2nd in the combined race. The Year 8 Boys and Year 9 Girls came 1st and the Year 9 Boys came 2nd in their year group races.
