Peace Poster Competition

The Lions Club are celebrating their 100 year anniversary and as part of this asked Year 8 students from neighbouring schools to enter posters in their competition. The theme was Peace. Our students rallied in the three weeks they had to prepare and produce their posters, both art rooms full every lunchtime in the race against time to finish. Markmaking Techniques

Students in Art PDA have been drawing landscape paintings which they created outside by looking at the tress at the bottom of the school field. By using sticks and ink they could explore markmaking techniques in their drawings which are very effective.

Y10 District 10s Champions

Our sports staff took 50 students from Years 9, 10 and 11 to take part in the Rugby 10s District Competition held at Scarborough Rugby Club. All the boys played an exceptional tournament with the Year 10 and 11 teams winning their respective groups. Mr Green said “All the students were a huge credit to the school and should be congratulated on their achievements”.

Sixth Form Open Evening

Many thanks to those who attended our Sixth Form Open Evening last night. We had a great evening showcasing our school to visitors. If you were unable to attend last night, do not hesitate to contact the school to request a prospectus or to arrange a tour. Applications are now invited for September 2018, deadline for applications is 31 January 2018.

Restart A Heart Day

Today mark’s European Restart A Heart Day. The Yorkshire Ambulance Service came into school to deliver training to our Year 8 students on how to administer CPR. The students had their own dummies to work on and were taken through the necessary steps to give CPR. Today more than 25,000 youngsters across 125 secondary schools in Yorkshire will be given the life saving training.

National Title for Tom

Congratulations to Year 8 student Tom Dodsworth, a purple belt in Ju Jitsu, who won the national champion title in his weight category at the British Ju Jitsu Championships in Newmarket.
Tom was accompanied to the event by his Sensai Dean Harker. It is the second year running that Tom has won the title. He was a Gold Medallist and British Champion in 2016 too.

A French Voyage

At the start of July, 56 students from Years 7 and 8 spent five days visiting rural, north western France. The group stayed in a Roman castle called Chateau Beaumont in Mayenne on the Normandy/Loire border.

Y Viva Espana

Our music bands have just returned from the Costa Brava where they wowed holidaymakers and locals alike with a series of concerts.
The bands including Glee Club, Soul and Jazz Band performed at various places including Lloret de Mar, Magrat de Mar, Tossa de Mar.
The group stayed in the city of Calella and managed to fit in visits to local attractions in between their busy schedule. They spent a day in Barcelona and also visited Girona and the local beach.

The school’s houses have been battling it out on the sports field in the end of term house matches. The top two spots were taken by Earth for the junior matches and Water for the senior matches. The results for the junior and senior house matches are:

Staying Awake for Teenage Charity

Our Year 9s have come to the end of their Key Stage and they were all keen to mark the occasion by doing something special.
After much debating, the students decided they would like to do something for a charity and set about organising a Wakeathon to raise funds via sponsorship for the Teenage Cancer Trust who had recently visited the school.
The students approached local businesses to ask for donations of snacks and drinks to support the event.
