Malton School is a special place. The close support we have from the local community really feeds through into the family atmosphere in school where relationships between staff and students and amongst the student body are unusually strong. We have a mutually supportive environment where students feel able to take risks in extending their learning because their counterparts are happy to celebrate their success. Students know that those around them will be pleased when they do well, whether that be in sport, music, art, drama or in any academic subject where they have a particular gift or talent that can shine. This does not happen in every school but it is the key cornerstone providing a solid foundation for each child to develop and flourish.
Malton School is held in high affection by former students who return to visit us each year and who keep contributing to our Friends organisation, the Old Maltonians. The traditional values upon which the success of the school were built are still perpetuated today.
Malton School has developed a strong balance of the best of traditional values – of respect, politeness, smart uniform and an industrious work ethic – with forward looking approaches to teaching and learning.
The school has stayed true to the delivery of well-regarded subjects and qualifications within its curriculum offer at GCSE and A Level. The more modern aspects of our curriculum offer have been built round our strengths as a Specialist Science school. For example, we offer the Engineering Diploma for students at pre-16 and post-16 level in conjunction with Derwent Training Association.
There is a real strength in being a successful 11 to 18 school. The vibrant sixth form, with the highest average attainment for non-selective schools in North Yorkshire over the last 6 years, adds greatly to the life of the whole school with the older students acting as positive role models supporting the younger ones round school and in certain lessons. The students in the lower school are often inspired to emulate the success of the sixth formers in general and through specific extracurricular opportunities in music, drama and sport.
The facilities of the school have improved significantly in recent years with the building of a sports centre and full-sized floodlit 3G astro-turf pitch. These give the school the best sports facilities in the district. This is being followed up this term with the development of a dance/drama studio and performance space.
Malton School is committed to providing the best possible education for the young people of our community. If you would like to find out more please contact us to arrange a personal tour of the school. There is no greater decision than choosing the school to best entrust with the care and development of your child. We take this seriously and hope you will want to work with us to see your child develop and flourish.
