Driving force

My name is Jess Farrow, I am 13 and my hobby is AUTOGRASS Racing. I race a Junior Saloon with both boys and girls and am a member of the York Autograss Club Y171. Last year was my first season and I achieved 2nd in my overall club points. Jumping for joy

Huge congratulations to Izzy Matique (Y10) who has been selected for the second year to represent North Yorkshire at the English Schools National Championships at Alexander Stadium in Birmingham in July. Her clearance of 1.66m is also a great PB for her too. Good luck in your next competition and well done.

Congratulations to our Food Festival winner

Alex Hutchinson has won the final of the Food Festival competition from 80 students across Year 9 at Malton School. The brief was to start with a basic Scotch egg recipe and come up with a unique creation. There were several heats in school before twelve students went to Malton Cookery School for the semi-final, and then six students competed in the final, which was held during the Food Festival itself. Alex prepared a traditional savoury scotch egg which […]

Volunteers Week – Celebrating our Senior Librarians

Our senior librarians; Matty, Zoe, Rowan, Monique, Beccy, Beth and Izzy all volunteer to organise and run the school library and support students using this facility. Matty was the first student to volunteer in this role, and has since built the team up to further their goal of maintaining the library space and supporting students.
The tasks our senior librarians undertake vary; some are focussed on the upkeep of the library itself: organising books, maintaining the careers information, keeping records and […]

The Year 9 Boys were crowned district football champions with a 2-0 win over a strong Eskdale side. Malton edged the early exchanges despite the absence of Ethan Oakes through injury.  Opportunities were limited, thanks to strong defending from both sides.  Josh Mann, in particular, impressed for Malton at the back.
After a series of chances created by the hold up play of Callum Moston, it was Malton who took a deserved lead through Will Hartley’s calm finish. The strong […]

National Maths Challenge Success

Last term 80 students from Years 9, 10 and 11 sat the UKMT Intermediate Maths Challenge. This Maths Challenge is an opportunity for our strongest Mathematicians to test themselves against other students around the country and consists of 25 problem solving Maths questions.
Our students performed fantastically well with several achieving Bronze and Silver awards. The greatest success stories belonged to Alex Hatton (Y11) and Evan Smurthwaite (Y9) who both achieved Gold awards (top 6% of scores) with Alex’s score putting […]

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof

Review: Cat on a Hot Tin Roof
By Kirsty Farrow
Our year 12 and 13 Literature classes, accompanied by Mrs Ward and Mrs Cass attended the live screening of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof by Tenessee Williams, at Malton Palace Cinema. This adaptation was unique and interesting as the director had adopted a modern approach to this 1955 play, with its inclusion of props such as mobile phone and iPods.
I thought that this modern adaptation was very effective as it […]

Year 7 Hockey

Well done to the Year 7 Girls hockey team who came second overall in the district tournament which was held at Lady Lumley’s yesterday. The girls played some great hockey and are now looking forward to their next tournament.

Disco Fever

Year 7 Disco
Our Year 7 students enjoyed their disco last night to raise funds for Toilet Twinning abroad. Daisy Ferguson Y12, wanted to raise funds for this extremely worthwhile cause. Toilet Twinning is a water and sanitation initiative as there are 2.3 billion people worldwide who do not have somewhere safe to go to the toilet. £60 enables you to twin your loo with an impoverished family’s household latrine in a country of your choice. The lack of a […]
