High Jump Champions

Congratulations to our new District junior boy, junior girl and intermediate boy high jump champions!
Year 11 student George Austin Thompson won the Intermediate Boys, Year 9 student Elliot Kettlestring won Junior Boys and Year 9 student Isabel Matique won Junior Girls.
All cleared a massive 1:55m. This was a great personal best for Elliott as his previous best was 1:50m and a great personal best too for Isabel who had a previous best of 1:54m.

Cheering on the Tour

Year 7 and 8 students turned out in support of the Tour de Yorkshire on Friday.

 

Students gathered along Broughton Road near the Sports Centre with artwork they had produced in art lessons of the cyclists.
The Year 7 students also waved their decorative M-A-L-T-O-N S-C-H-O-O-L banner.

The tour had started at Bridlington and was on its way to Scarborough on the first day of the race.

Cooking up a Feast

Our Year 11 Food Technology students spent a day in the kitchen working on their GCSE projects creating dishes from around the globe.

 

FT teacher Justine Warner said the extra sessions meant that the students were able to prepare high quality and more complex recipes which wasn’t always easy in their normal lessons because of cooking times.

Students make their voices heard

Malton School students made their voices heard and won through to the regional finals of a national public speaking competition.
The three Sixth Form students, Merri Barnet, Gemma McNeill and Barney Plews, won in the senior team category in the District Final of the Rotary Youth Speaks competition.
The trio will now go through to the regional finals at The Brooksbank School in Elland, West Yorkshire this weekend.

Experiencing the Operating Theatre

Several students ranging from years 9 to 13 took part in a unique medical workshop including a simulated operating theatre which was set up in the West Wing gym.
The Operating Theatre Live event is unlike any other school-based workshop. The event started with the creation of a mock operating theatre using real anatomical samples for examination.

Finding out about Oxbridge

A group of Year 12 students attended an information day for students looking at putting in Oxbridge applications.
The event took place at Lady Lumley’s College where students from Malton School were joined by students from neighbouring schools.
The day gave the students an insight into life at university and the whole application process with current university students on hand to answer any questions.

Fundraising for Comic Relief

There were plenty of fun activities on Friday with several fundraising events taking place across the school for Red Nose Day.
Staff and students came to school wearing something red for Comic Relief…whether it was t-shirts and tops..

Students had been busy baking and held cake sales at break time..

Rugby Girls Success

A total of 42 Malton School girls spent a fantastic afternoon of rugby at Driffield on Wednesday March 21st. There were two squads of U15 and two squads at U13.
The girls have only been playing contact rugby for three weeks and this was their first full competitive rugby. The U15 teams played against South Hunsley and Filey in a development competition as it was their first full competition.

BBC News School Reporters for a Day

Students made the news on March 16th 2017 by taking part in the nationwide BBC News School Report.
The student news team, who all do the Newspaper PDA session, put together a broadcast news report about the benefits of using tablets and technology in schools as Malton is an iPad for Learning School.
