A Time to Celebrate

The second of our annual Celebration Evenings took place this week when students in the Upper School were rewarded for their hard work.
We also welcomed back some of our recent school leavers who returned to collect trophies and awards for excellence in their work.
This year, for the first time, our celebration evening has been split into two evenings giving even more students the opportunity to be rewarded.
Entertainment was provided by the students themselves. Year 13 student Heather Staples sang […]

Family Carol Service

Students, staff, parents and grandparents joined together for some festive carols at our annual Family Carol Service on Tuesday evening at St Mary the Virgin Church, Old Malton.
It is one of the most enjoyable festive events in the run up to Christmas with the Glee Club adding their own touch to the carols’ verses. This year year 12 Heather Staples sang and Year 9 Jennifer Staples played the clarinet.
Students from Year 9, Alicia Davison, Marcus Raistrick, Holly Atkinson and […]

A Festive Evening of Talent

Earlier this week our Christmas concert took place in the West Wing Hall. The audience were entertained with singing and dancing.

A number of students showed their talents on the piano and their instruments with beautiful renditions of popular culture as well as the token Christmas favourites.

This concert is a real student led affair with lighting and stage management being run by students from varying year groups.
Our one night only performance came from our very own Headteacher Mr Rob Williams […]

A Lesson in Charity

Big-hearted students have thrown their efforts into raising funds for local charities this term.
The students, who all opted to do charity work in their PDA session, held a fundraising event in school to raise money for Martin House Hospice, Yorkshire Air Ambulance and the Encephalitis Society.
Under the guidance of Miss Davison, the students split into groups to focus on each of the charities. They were responsible for preparing stalls for a bring and buy sale, bake sale, book sale […]

A visit from the West End

The Year 11 and 12 drama students got a taste of life treading the boards when West End casting director Ben Newsome came into school to talk to them.
Ben spoke about his job, how he got where he is and some of the shows, films and TV programmes he has cast. He also clarified what a casting director does; some of the students were surprised to hear that it is not simply about sitting in on auditions and choosing the […]

Raising Funds for Children in Need

Students and staff raised a fantastic £828 for Children in Need by hosting a variety of fun fundraising activities on Friday.
The Sixth Form students organised their own version of the TV game show, Pointless, while others dressed up for Famous Friday.

Students in the lower school sold sweets and lunchtime and a group of four Year 8 girls had spent the night before baking cakes to sell during the lunch break.

Staff and students also thrashed it out on the football […]

Opportunity Knocks

Students had the chance to find out what skills, qualifications and training are required for different career paths at an event in Pickering this week.
The Year 9 students were invited to Opportunity Knocks at Lady Lumley’s School to meet employers from across Ryedale.
They visited the various stands to chat to employers about their training and career opportunities. The students found it very helpful in deciding on course or career options.
Companies attending the event included Sylatech, NYBEP, North York Moors […]
