Reaching New Heights for County

Congratulations to Year 9 student Isabel Matique who has been selected to represent the county in both high jump and relay at the English Schools National Track and Field Championships at the Birmingham Alexander Stadium this Friday and Saturday.
The event is the 4th largest athletics event in the world. Isabel is one of 40 students to be selected from all the schools in North Yorkshire. We wish her all the best for the event.

Talented Students Show off Art

Talented students at Malton School showed off their work at their annual art exhibition.
The work on display at the event was by students in years 11 and 13 as part of their GCSE and A Level coursework.

Year 11 Prom Night

The Year 11 students celebrated the end of their GCSEs at their Prom Night on Tuesday evening.
This year the students had decided they wanted to hold the event at the Malton and Norton Golf Club.
The students, who had had their final assembly in the morning, all looked fantastic in their dresses and suits.

As always students arrived using many different modes of transport including a fork lift truck, VW Camper Vans, sports’ cars, motorbikes and even a wheelbarrow!

Out in style for Year 11

The Year 11 students went out in style for their last day in school.
The group had their final year assembly in the morning which included music from the school band which got the students swaying in the aisles.

There were also a number of awards for their teachers including Best Hair, Nicest Teacher, Best Dressed Teacher and Scariest Teacher to name a few.

Reading Time

Our Year 13 senior librarians have worked hard to make improvements in the library.
As well as sorting out the library books; replacing posters and generally tidying up the space; they have put forward a number of suggestions.
Some of their ideas include:

There will be a sixth form presence Monday 1pm-1:30pm and Thursday 1pm to 1:30pm (with more senior librarians, the library should be open most days)

Election Fever – Meet our new KS4 Leaders

In the same week that the nation went to the polling booths for the general election students at Malton School were casting their own votes.
The students were voting for the next head boy and head girl team and their deputies. The new KS4 leaders are Head Boy Thomas Williamson from Barton Le Street, Head Girl Megan Clibbens from Filey, Deputy Head Boy Isaac Rice from Malton and Deputy Head Girl Lucy Godrich from Great Barugh.

Cookery Queen judges student bake-off

Well done to budding chef Jack Robinson in Year 9 who scooped the winning title at the bake-off final at the Malton Food Festival.
The competition took place at Malton Cookery School where students had to adapt a traditional recipe for a Suet Roll. They were judged by cookery queen Prue Leith who takes over from Mary Berry as the new Great British Bake Off judge on the Channel 4 show.

Cosmetic Science Award Winners

Well done to science students Isabel Donaldson, Harriet Podmore, Year 11 and Phoebe Nicholson, Year 9, who reached the finals of the Institute for Cosmetic Science (IFCS) annual chemistry competition.

The students investigated developing a range of space-themed bath bombs during their Microbiology PDA session.

Student Festival Bake-Off

Six Year 9 students from Malton School are taking part in a bake-off final at the Malton Food Festival this weekend.
The competition takes place at Malton Cookery School where students will have to adapt a traditional recipe for a Suet Roll.
The students in the final are India hall, Rosie Smith, Phoebe Nicholson, Jaden Jefferson, Jack Robinson and Lily Thompson.

Remembering the Wars

At the end of April a group of Year 10 students and members of staff visited the Battlefields in Northern France continuing the centenary commemorations with a focus on the events of 1917.
Students were encouraged to research their own family history to see if they had any relatives who died in the war. Wherever possible an effort was made to locate the cemetery or memorial where they were commemorated.
