Alex Hutchinson has won the final of the Food Festival competition from 80 students across Year 9 at Malton School. The brief was to start with a basic Scotch egg recipe and come up with a unique creation. There were several heats in school before twelve students went to Malton Cookery School for the semi-final, and then six students competed in the final, which was held during the Food Festival itself. Alex prepared a traditional savoury scotch egg which had a perfectly soft boiled egg in the centre, encased in sausage meat enhanced by herbs and seasoning and coated in breadcrumbs. It was a strong field and the students all performed very well. The chef judges; Matthew Beaver (owner of Maison du vin Malton) and Paul Bough (Chef at Eckington Manor), were very impressed with Alex’s demonstration of technical skill and so awarded her the prize.
