Early Entry Students Seeking a Head Start
Dr Simha, Head of Guidance, has been encouraging Year 12 students who are either considering applying to Oxbridge or wish to study Medicine or Dentistry at university to do as much preparation as they can now. The deadline for applications for these students, who go through a longer and much more intensive process of assessment, testing and interviews is early in the Autumn Term of Year 13 (rather than the following January for all other UCAS applications).
For those considering Oxbridge applications, three students had the opportunity to visit Brasenose College Oxford earlier this term, on an extended Open Day, to hear firsthand from tutors and current students about preparing to apply, as well as finding out more about life at an Oxbridge College.
Speaking after the event, Jack said, “It was amazing to be at Brasenose; the Geography department was really great – they spent a great deal of time showing us around and explaining what was on the course, the breadth of fieldwork and the work that would be expected from you during the course.”
Once A level exams were over, Dr Simha also invited Year 13 students who have been through the process this year and have either been offered a place to study at Oxbridge or to study Medicine / Dentistry, back into School to host a workshop for Year 12 students. This gave younger students the opportunity to ask questions about the process, the requirements and to gain tips and pointers from our older students. Our thanks to all the Year 13 students who volunteered to come back into School and help run the workshops. It was really encouraging for our Year 12 students and gave them a real insight into what’s required and what’s expected.
Hannah said, “It was great to be able to talk to people who have just gone through the process and understand applying from a student point of view – it was really beneficial to get advice on everything from revision to personal statements.”
For Alfie, “It was really useful to have direct insight from students who have been accepted into Oxbridge universities and been through that process as they can provide us with more specialised advice.”
We wish all our Year 13 students all the very best for results day and wish our Year 12 students every success with the early entry process.
