Spring Term
The Spring Term is another key one for prospective students, but also includes one of the highlights of the school year – the annual show. Below is a brief introduction to the events. For exact details of dates and times, please refer to our Calendar.
Sixth Form Taster Days
The Spring Term starts with the Sixth Form Taster Days – two days spent by Year 11 students in Sixth Form, engaging with A level and BTEC lessons, being introduced to life in Sixth Form and finding out more about study post 16. It also provides an opportunity for students to explore subjects they may not otherwise have considered studying or subjects that aren’t offered at GCSE. Year 11 students from both Malton School and other local secondary schools are invited to attend.
Year 12 Applications
Unlike the Year 7 process, applications to Sixth Form are made directly with school, again through an online process. The application window opens at the end of the Sixth Form Open Evening and whilst we accept applications up to the start of the Autumn Term of Year 12, we ask that all requests to join us be made by 31 January each year. This enables us to review all applications and finalise option blocks.
Year 7 Appeals
North Yorkshire Council notifies parents of Year 7 secondary school place allocations at the start of March each year. For the past few years we have been oversubscribed, which means that not all families who request Malton School are offered a place. If you are unsuccessful, there is an independent appeals process, further details of which can be found on the NYC website: https://www.northyorks.gov.uk/appeal-school-place
School Show
Every year just before Easter, students from all Years in school put on a professional stage show. In the past students have performed shows as diverse as Fame and Little Shop of Horrors. The 4-night extravaganza involves students at every stage – from selling programmes at the door, to performing on stage, taking on backstage roles as well as providing the music in our very own pit orchestra. It’s a great opportunity for students to practice their skills, grow in confidence and work as a team. Tickets for shows are available to buy from West Wing Reception.
