Malton School Equestrian Team Make it to the NSEA Championships

Malton School has a strong and growing equestrian team which take part in competitions run by the National Schools Equestrian Association.  Many of the qualifying competitions take part at Northallerton Equestrian Centre.  However, having progressed through a qualifying competition, two of our teams travelled to Addington Manor Equestrian Centre near Buckingham last weekend.  The teams were competing in 3 classes – 70cm showjumping, 80cm showjumping plus dressage.  Against a very strong field, many from private schools, the team put on an impressive display of horsemanship.

The following report is written by Liv, one of the Year 8 team members.

After qualifying at Northallerton Equestrian Centre in September, two teams from the Malton school equestrian team went down to Addington Manor EC near Buckingham to compete in the 70cm show jumping (Nina and Anna, Lily and myself) and 80cm show Jumping (Anna, Libby, Sophie and myself) as well as Dressage in the Novice (Libby).

This is quite an achievement because the Championships are for the best of the best in the School Equestrian Teams in England! The 70cm team brought home a fabulous third in the championship plate, the 80cm team got placed 8th (out of 16 teams) in the championship plate and Libby got a fantastic 5th in the individual dressage event (it was a very close call in the top five!).

We got to bring home rosettes, stable plaques, NSEA Caps and lead ropes for prizes. A few of the Team hadn’t been to Champs before so it was a fantastic experience for us, if not a little tiring! We would also like to thank our parents – we wouldn’t be able to do it without their endless support – as well as the School in allowing us the time off to attend Champs.

If anyone has a horse/pony and wants to join us – we are a friendly bunch – just let any of the Team members know.

We would like to add our congratulations to the team and wish them well in future competitions over the course of this year.  And if you are interested in joining the team, or finding out more, do email us at admin@maltonschool.org.
