Microbiologists present at Cafe ScientifiqueMalton School
Our Microbiology students were offered the opportunity to present their experimental findings at a Cafe Scientifique event at the City Screen basement in York last night.
Year 10 students Isabel Donaldson, Harriet Podmore, Rowan Lyall and Year 9 student Joseph Banks presented their research into Roman eye medicine.
Students from Ripon Grammar, Boroughbridge High School and Fulford School also presented the research they had been doing in microbiology.
The audience was made up of members of the public who were given the opportunity to ask the students questions. Mrs Cooper and Year 8 student Felix Hill and Year 9 student Robert Huddie also went along to support their fellow students.
The Cafe Scientifique is a place where for the price of a cup of coffee or a glass of wine anyone can meet to explore the latest ideas in science and technology.
Meetings take place in cafes, bars, restaurants and even theatres, but always outside a traditional academic context.
Student Harriet Podmore said: “It was a great experience for us to present our research to members of the public.”
