JAMF PARENT
Helping you manage your child’s school iPad at home
JAMF Parent gives parents and carers control over their child’s school iPad outside school hours.
Using the JAMF Parent app, available on the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, you can manage which apps your child can use, which websites they can visit, and help reduce distractions when they should be doing homework, spending time with family, or getting ready for bed.
You can use JAMF Parent to:
- Restrict certain apps or app categories.
- Allow only selected apps for a set period.
- Set restrictions to help manage screen time.
- Create simple rules for homework, bedtime and other routines.
School remains responsible for managing the iPad during the school day.
Setting up JAMF Parent
You will need the JAMF Parent app on your own phone or tablet.
- Download JAMF Parent from the app store on your device.
- Open JAMF Parent.
- On the school iPad, open the JAMF Student app.
- Follow the pairing instructions to connect your device.
- Once paired, your child’s iPad will appear in JAMF Parent.

Looking After Your iPad
The iPad is a robust device designed for everyday use, but it still needs to be looked after.
Keep it in its case
Keep the iPad in its school-approved protective case.
Please do not remove the iPad from the case for normal use. The case protects it from drops, knocks and damage while it is being used and carried around school or at home.
School-provided insurance is only valid while the device is kept in a complete, school-approved case that has not been altered or modified.
Keep the screen protector fitted
The screen protector provides an extra layer of protection against scratches and impacts.
If the screen protector becomes badly damaged, cracked or starts peeling away, it should be replaced. A damaged screen protector does not necessarily mean the iPad screen underneath is damaged.
School-provided insurance is only valid if the screen protector is fitted at the time the damage occurs and remains fitted when the device is brought in for repair. Removing the screen protector will void the insurance.
Carry it carefully
Keep the iPad inside a school bag when travelling to and from school.
Avoid carrying it loose with books, drinks or other objects that could damage it.
Never place heavy objects on top of the iPad.
Keep it safe around school
Do not leave your iPad or school bag unattended on the field, where it could be stood on or damaged.
During lessons where iPads cannot be used, such as PE, leave the device in the designated secure storage or charging area.
Damage caused by leaving an iPad or bag unattended on the field may be treated as negligence and may not be covered by school-provided insurance.
Keep food and drinks away
Liquid damage can be expensive and may not always be repairable.
Keep drinks away from the iPad and never carry a water bottle in the same compartment of a bag.
Charge it for school
Students should arrive at school with their iPad and Apple Pencil charged and ready for the day.
We recommend charging the iPad overnight in a suitable location rather than relying on charging during lessons, as this is not always possible.
Where possible, use the supplied 20W wall adapter or a suitable equivalent.
Insurance
iPads supplied through the school iPad scheme include insurance, subject to the policy terms.
The insurance is there to help when accidents happen. It does not replace the need to take reasonable care of the device.
To help ensure the iPad remains protected:
- Keep the iPad in its school-approved protective case.
- Keep the screen protector fitted.
- Take reasonable care when carrying and using it.
- Report damage as soon as possible.
- Do not attempt to repair the iPad yourself.
- Do not take the iPad to an unauthorised repair shop.
If you are unsure whether damage is covered, contact us. We can advise you on the next step.
My iPad Has Been Damaged
Accidents happen. If the iPad is damaged, please report it rather than continuing to use a damaged device.
This includes:
- Cracked or damaged screens.
- Damaged charging ports.
- Liquid damage.
- Damaged buttons.
- Bent or damaged iPads.
- Problems following a drop or impact.
- Damage to the case that means it no longer protects the iPad properly.
What should I do?
1. Stop using it if it may be unsafe
If the iPad is badly damaged, unusually hot, swollen or has exposed internal parts, switch it off and do not charge it.
2. Report the damage
Contact the school IT Support team and tell us what has happened.
Please include the student’s name and year group, a short description of the damage and, if possible, photographs showing the problem.
3. Bring the iPad to IT Support
Bring the iPad, with its case and screen protector still fitted, to IT Support in the Library.
We will inspect the device and advise you about repair or replacement.
Where appropriate, we will arrange the repair through the school’s insurance and repair process.
Please do not arrange your own repair before speaking to us.
Devices purchased in 2025
If you purchased your device or extended insurance in 2025, your device insurance was provided through Edutech. Please contact Edutech directly to arrange a repair:

Replacement Accessories
Accessories such as cases, Apple Pencils, Pencil tips and screen protectors are not covered by the school’s device insurance.
Cases and Apple Pencils may include a manufacturer’s warranty, but this does not normally cover accidental damage, loss or theft.
Replacement and additional accessories can be ordered through the school at cost. Once your order has been received, we will send you a payment link. Items can then be collected from IT Support in the Library when ready.
You can currently order:
- Tempered glass screen protector
- School-approved Logitech keyboard case
- Apple USB-C Pencil
- Compatible non-Apple Pencil
- Replacement Apple Pencil tips

You can also purchase your own replacement accessories. If you are unsure which model you need, please contact IT Support before ordering.
Replacement cases must be school-approved and provide suitable protection for the front, back and corners of the iPad.
If your screen protector or case is damaged, please replace it promptly. Remember that the school-approved case and screen protector must remain fitted for school-provided device insurance to remain valid.
Loan iPads
Loan iPads are available, where possible, to students who have an iPad covered by an active school iPad scheme or extended school insurance and whose device is unavailable because of a repair or insurance claim.
Loan devices are subject to availability. Students should visit IT Support in the Library during first break to check whether a device is available.
If your iPad is no longer part of an active scheme or covered by extended insurance, you are responsible for ensuring that you have a suitable device available for school use.
Bringing Your Own iPad
Sixth Form students who use their own iPad for school must have the device approved and enrolled in the school’s JAMF School Mobile Device Management (MDM) system before it can be used in school.
There is a £15 MDM licence charge, which covers the device for three years.
Please do not simply bring a personal iPad into school and start using it on the school network.
Enrolling the device allows the school to apply the settings needed for school use and helps us ensure appropriate safeguarding, filtering and monitoring arrangements are in place while the device is being used for learning.
The Government’s statutory guidance on mobile phones in schools, which schools have been required to follow since September 2026, allows schools to operate Bring Your Own Device schemes for laptops and tablets. These devices must be used in accordance with the school’s BYOD and acceptable-use policies.

Managing Screen Time
iPads are learning tools, but we also recognise the importance of helping children and young people develop healthy habits around technology.
Not all screen time is the same
It is useful to think about what a young person is doing on a screen, not just the number of minutes they spend looking at one.
Using an iPad to create a film, draw, make music, research a subject, complete schoolwork or collaborate with classmates is different from spending the same amount of time passively scrolling through short-form content.
The Government’s 2026 work on children’s screen use recognises that technology can bring benefits, including learning, creativity and connection, and that screen use needs to be considered in context rather than simply counting time.
Read the Government’s 2026 information on children’s screen use
NHS advice also recommends looking at the balance of screen use, including what screens are being used for, when they are being used, who children use them with and how long they are used for.
Read NHS advice about healthy screen use
The aim isn’t simply to reduce screen time. It is to help young people develop a healthy balance between technology, sleep, physical activity, face-to-face time and other parts of everyday life.
At home, JAMF Parent can also give parents and carers additional controls over their child’s school iPad outside school hours.
