School & Community: Fitter Together
For more than 12 years, Malton School has proudly shared its sporting facilities with the wider community in Ryedale. The Malton Community Sports Centre is an integral part of the community. It’s known primarily for providing space for clubs and individuals to keep fit and participate in sporting activities and we very much want to build on this by offering even more to the residents of Malton and Norton and the surrounding villages. It has been our ambition for a number of years to expand the current Malton Community Sports Centre to accommodate even more organisations and give more opportunities to children and adults alike to both get fit and keep fit.
Some of the local groups sharing our Centre include: North Riding Football Association; Primary PE and School Sport Partnership; Brooklyn FC; Malton and Norton Rugby Club, as well as cricket teams. Classes run for the public include Pilates and Get Fit Gently and there are many other groups and organisations who have used the pitches, hall and rooms since we opened in 2011. For them Malton Community Sport Centre is an essential part of their fitness programme. Here are comments from just a selection of users:
- “I have been attending the Get Fit Gently sessions at MCSC since late 2018 and highly recommend them to anyone. I am retired and started the sessions because a friend recommended them, and I also wanted to maintain and improve my physical fitness. I highly recommend the fitness sessions at MCSC.” Comment from regular visitor.
- Highly recommend MCSC for both the fitness and social aspects of life! …. The instructors and supervisor are super friendly, knowledgeable, and quickly learn your capabilities and ensure all levels of fitness are considered. You can always have a laugh with them, and I can honestly say I have found some great friends and like-minded people in the classes.” Comment from local resident.
- “Events are always superbly organised and our children have gained so much from regularly attending competitive and ‘fun’ events in an increasingly large range of activities alongside other local schools.” Comment from local primary school.
- “The centre has played a huge part in the development of junior football over the past decade, particularly with partner clubs, Brooklyn FC and Old Malton St. Mary’s. Currently over 400 local junior players per season participate in weekly coaching and competitive football opportunities at MCSC, under the FA’s league systems, and MCSC has proven to be an excellent model of investment for the Football Foundation.” Steven Wade, Chief Executive For and on behalf of North Riding County FA
Fitness through sport is just one way the community benefits from use of the Centre. We now want to raise awareness of all we currently offer so that together we can work to future proof it for the benefit of all. We have the backing of many partners in our plans to expand and hope to keep gathering even more support for this great asset at the heart of our local community.
