The most important measure of any sixth form is the proportion of its students that move onto their chosen next career step.  This is our prime focus at Malton.  We recognize that our young people are on a journey from GCSE study to moving out into the adult world in just 2 short years.  Our task is to equip them with a firm foundation for future success.  One way we do this is through our programme of guidance.

Guidance at KS5

All students follow one of our Pathways (Early Entry, Higher Vocational or Enhanced) each supported by one of the members of the KS5 Team.  Alongside targeted support from the Head of Guidance and Sixth Form Tutor Team, this helps ensure all our students realise their chosen destinations, whether applying for university, undertaking an apprenticeship or entering employment.  As part of this process, the Team meet with all students over the course of Year 12 and Year 13 to make sure they have the support, experiences and qualifications they need to make the right decision about their next steps.  We also work with external agencies to aid students in their decision making.

Our careers guidance package includes guest speakers in assembly, fortnightly guidance newsletters, Unifrog and the use of iPads as a ‘one stop shop’ for resources relating to careers.

Every student also has a dedicated tutor who will support them with university or apprenticeship applications.  We use the ‘Unifrog’ platform to record information which parents also have access to.
