FIRM FOUNDATION FOR FUTURE SUCCESS
The most important measure of any sixth form is the proportion of its students that move onto their chosen next career step. We recognize that our young people are on a journey from GCSE study to moving out into the adult world in just 2 short years. Our task is to equip them with a firm foundation for future success. One way we do this is through our programme of guidance.
GUIDANCE AT KS5
The process starts as early as KS4, to identify those continuing with full-time study post 16, as well as those aspiring to Oxbridge, Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Science and Allied Health careers such as Nursing and Midwifery.
We signpost and support students to obtain relevant work shadowing and work experience opportunities, organise visits and Q&A sessions with guest speakers. Over the years our careers programme has been considerably enriched through the contributions made by a range of organisations, parents and former students. We also provide guidance for those seeking to study abroad, at conservatoires, at academies for the performing arts and those looking for an apprenticeship.
All students follow one of our Pathways (Early Entry, Higher Vocational or Enhanced) each supported by one of the members of the KS5 Team. All students are encouraged to think about their future career plans very early on, which from experience is the best way of guaranteeing them their preferred post 18 destination, one which they can truly be proud of.
Targeted support from the Head Guidance and Sixth Form Tutor Team, ensures that all our students realise their chosen destinations, whether applying for university, undertaking an apprenticeship or entering employment. Regular one-to-one meetings address academic progress and ‘next steps’, to make sure they have the support, experiences and qualifications they need to make the right decisions.
