Guidance

Welcome from the Head of Guidance

At Malton, we aim not only to provide an outstanding teaching and learning environment but empower students to maximise their potential as they plan for the next stage in their lives. As the Head of Guidance, my meetings with each student are designed to get to know the student in order to personalise and support them to make the most suitable post 18 choices, whether it be university, apprenticeships or employment.

We aim to:

  • Equip our students with the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to make informed decisions about their learning through a relevant programme of careers education
  • Support students with personalised information, advice and guidance to help them build up the confidence to take charge of their career development and manage their own progression through learning and work
  • Inspire students to consider a broad and ambitious range of options and to move on to achieve their full potential

Careers meetings also aim to offer practical support with

  • crafting powerful personal statements
  • writing CVs and drafting job applications
  • identifying and supporting applications for work shadowing/ work experience
  • preparing for interviews

Making well-informed decisions about their future careers and subject choices includes providing students with access to information about future career prospects through the UCAS hub and Unifrog. Both are designed to offer university and apprenticeship applicants the very best tools to research and explore what they are looking for.

It is a privilege to work with our young people, supporting them with a diverse range of successful applications- which makes being Head of Guidance such an enjoyable and interesting role.

I look forward to working with you to enable you to become the best you can be on your career journey.
