Sixth Form Transition
To help you make the move from KS4 learning to KS5, we offer a total of 5 Transition days:
- Two Taster Days in January which enable you to experience Sixth Form lessons and get a feel for life in Sixth Form
- A Pre-Registration Day in June (after GCSEs have finished) to meet Sixth Form Tutors and begin to get to grips with your post 16 subjects, including transition work.
- An Induction Day in September to help you settle into life in Sixth Form.
- A Team-Building Day in late September.
TASTER DAYS
For students in Year 11 considering joining us in Year 12, we hold two Taster Days in early January. The aim of the days is to provide you with the opportunity to sample taster lessons in all your chosen subjects, as well as sample subjects you may be considering studying in Year 12. You will also be able to use the Sixth Form facilities, including our dedicated Sixth Form study area, Room 40. The Taster Days are therefore a great opportunity to really confirm your final subject choices, as well as experience life in Sixth Form.
Year 11 students who currently attend Malton School will be automatically invited to the day, however, we also extend the invitation to students who do not currently study at Malton but who are considering the Sixth Form at Malton for their A level studies in the September.
Pre-booking is essential for all students, regardless of where they study, and places for non-Malton students are limited. If you are interested in attending, please email sixth@maltonschool.org and we will send you a programme for the two days, plus a booking form.
If you are unable to attend the Taster Days, either because the date is not convenient for you or because we are oversubscribed, please also email us at sixth@maltonschool.org and we will try to arrange a visit to school for you during standard opening hours.
PRE-REGISTRATION DAY
The Pre-Registration Day is your first full day of induction in Sixth Form and is held in June, once all the GCSE exams are over.
At the Pre-Registration Day you will attend a session for each of the subjects you have chosen to study and will be given some transition work to complete before the start of Y12 in September. The aim of the day and the work is to help make the transition from KS4 to KS5 learning as smooth as possible. You will also spend time with your new Sixth Form Tutor and form group.
The 2026 Pre-Registration Day is being held on Monday, 22 June.
INDUCTION DAY
We invite Y12 (and also Y7) students into school the day before all students return for the start of the autumn term. This is to enable you to sort out some of the practicalities for life in Sixth Form as well as familiarise yourself with school when there are only two year groups in the building. This is the day when you will receive your lanyard and iPad (if you have ordered a new one). You will also have a session with your form tutor, find out how to make best use of your iPad in Sixth Form and learn about study skills for KS5 learning. We usually invite a guest speaker for the afternoon session.
The 2026 Induction Day is currently planned for Wednesday, 9 September.
TEAM BUILDING DAY
Held on the last Friday of September, the team building day offers a fun and relaxed opportunity to get to know your fellow students better as well as to begin to understand yourself and your strengths. We invite an external company to set up a series of different challenges, which you will solve by working together in teams. It’s held on the school field and you will be off timetable for the whole day.
