The Sixth Form at Malton

Year 12 Applications

Applications to study with us in September of Year 12 open in November of Year 11, following our Open Evening.

The deadline for applying is end January the following year (for September 2024 entry this is Wednesday, 31 January 2024).  Whilst we will accept applications after this date, up to and including the start of Year 12, we regret that we are unable to make any changes to the Option Blocks to accommodate student requests after the end January application deadline has passed.

All students entering the Sixth Form to undertake a 3 A level programme must have secured 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above.  Students wanting to pursue a full L3 BTEC course of study need to have gained 4 GCSE grades at 4 or above.  Students achieving a strong grade profile (7/8/9) may choose to undertake a programme of 4 A levels.  In Maths it is highly recommended at least a 6 is secured on the higher paper due to the demanding nature of this subject.

It is expected that all students will achieve a GCSE grade 4 or higher in GCSE English Language and GCSE Mathematics.  Where this has not been secured students will be required to retake these qualifications as part of their Year 12 Sixth Form programme of study.

Occasionally, there will be special circumstances whereby a student is permitted to enter with less than the stated requirements above, but this will be conditional on meeting certain criteria both before and during the induction period.  In all cases students will be expected to sign a learning agreement making a commitment to meet our high expectations of attitude to study.  Entry is at the discretion of the Director of Sixth Form, in consultation with the Headteacher.

applying for september 2024 entry

If you would like to join us in September 2024 for a 2 year programme of study, please use the link below to apply.  Although the initial deadline for applications (31 January) has now passed, we are still accepting applications. However, please be aware that some option blocks may have changed and some courses are now full.  If you are submitting a new application (rather than revising an existing application), we would recommend that you email us at in the first instance for further details.  Thank you.

The option blocks for entry next year can be found here.  Please be aware these are the original option blocks, as released in November 2023.  (See also paragraph above regarding option block changes and full courses).
