Week 10 Sporting Round Up

Week 10 Sporting Round Up

It’s been another busy few weeks for our teams.

The Y7 boys competed in their very first Rugby District tournament at Scarborough Rugby Club at the end of October. Despite having only played together since September they worked well as a team and achieved some encouraging first results and are very much looking forward to their next tournament.

The Y8 boys football team have progressed through 2 rounds of the County Cup. Their first match (just before the half-term) was against Boroughbridge High School, when the team secured a convincing 12-0 win. Stand out performers were Theo, Seb and Bali.

They faced much stiffer competition in the 2nd round, away to Sherburn High School. Not only did the match take place in very wet and windy conditions, the team suffered an early setback when Sherburn took the lead with 2 goals within the first 5 minutes. However, they regrouped and battled back to not only level the game but go on to win 5-3. Well done to goal scorers Tris (2), Jake, Sam and Charlie. Special mention to Murray, who did exceptionally well in goal.

Our U14 and U16 girls’ netball teams represented Scarborough/Ryedale District in the England Netball National Schools’ Competition at Ashville College last weekend. Both squads came up against some exceptionally strong teams but relished the opportunity to compete at such a high standard. We are exceptionally proud of both teams for the determination and resilience which they have shown throughout the tournament. In particular, we are delighted that the U16 team was awarded the fair play trophy. Agreed by the officials and umpires, the award was given to the team for their respectful and polite attitude and behaviour. The umpires noted that the team listened well to feedback and advice and therefore showed improvements to their game play throughout the tournament.

Last, but by no means least, the U19 Netball team played against Scarborough 6th Form in a friendly just before half term. The Year 13 team had an extremely close match against a very strong Scarborough side losing 29-23. The Year 12 team played very well together and won their match with an impressive score of 26-4.
