Week 5 Sporting Round Up
As we end the 5th week of the Autumn term, there are a number of sporting stories to bring you, with some notable successes for our teams and some impressive wins.
Boys’ Football
The footballing season has begun in earnest for our teams with nearly every year group having been involved in matches over the last two weeks. And all the matches have been in key competitions – the National Cup, County Cup or District Cup.
- The U18 boys were in action in the National Cup. Playing against Driffield, the team put on a spirited second half performance against a very physical team but lost out narrowly with a final score of 3-4. Special mention to Riley who scored twice from a penalty and Fred who scored the team’s other goal.
- The Year 10 boys played against Ermystead Grammar in the County Cup. At full-time the teams were evenly matched with a score of 2-2. The match was eventually decided through a penalty shoot-out. The Malton team managed to keep their cool and secure a win, with a final score of 7-6. A great result for the team and a real encouragement following their previous match which saw them lose following another penalty shoot-out.
- The Year 9 and Year 8 teams were both in action in the District Cup with some incredible scores. On the same day, the Y8s won 23-0 and Y9s 15-3. Some really impressive skills from our teams with results that read more like a rugby score.
- The Y7’s have also made a really positive start to their school footballing careers. They were in action twice this week. The first game was in the National Cup against Driffield. As with so many of the games recently, the teams were very evenly matched and at full-time the score was 2-2. Sadly, the team lost out on penalties, but it was a really encouraging start for them.
- Having narrowly lost out to Driffield, the team regrouped and in their District game against Filey School won with an impressive score of 9-0.
Girls’ Netball
The U16 girls’ have also been in action recently, again in a District competition. It was the final match of the District Netball Tournament, with saw the team come 3rd overall. Well played to everyone.
We’ll bring you more of our sporting stories as we get them.
